One Shot Class (Sundays)
One Shot class held on Sunday 5:30-8:00 pm. is a one-off class for beginners and first-timers. You get a wheel, clay, an instructor and 2.5 hours to try your hand at the pottery wheel. The wheel looks easy but it can seem to have a mind of its own. We do promise you'll have fun.
Saggar Firing Workshop (June)
In this special form of raku, students will coat their bisqueware with clay before firing the ware in the kiln. The course consists of 2 sessions: A prep session on Monday, June 22, 6:30-8:30 PM; and the firing on Sunday, June 28, 12-4 PM.
Obvara Firing Workshop (October)
In this 4-hour workshop with DCC instructor Rachel Levine, students will learn the magic of Obvara firing. Developed in the 12th century Baltic, this traditional firing method involves heating pottery to red-hot and pulling it out of the kiln at peak temperature. Using tongs, students dip the glowing pot into a fermented flour mixture. After quenching the piece in a water, the pottery is left with splashes, drips, and dots of black, white, and tan.
